On this World AIDS Day, we pause to remember and reflect on the millions of lives impacted by HIV/AIDS.
While this is an annual occurrence taking place every December 1st, this year takes on additional significance; it was 40 years ago that the first cases of HIV emerged. It was the very beginning of a global epidemic that continues to this day.
Over the past four decades, an estimated 36 million people have died from HIV/AIDS according to the World Health Organization. An estimated 37 million people are currently living with the virus. LIVING is the key word. While we must never forget the tragic toll of the HIV epidemic, we must also celebrate the incredible medical advances that have taken this virus from a death sentence to a LIFE sentence. All around the world, people with HIV are living full, happy, successful lives.
At Trillium Health, we are committed to continuing the journey to work towards an AIDS free world. Special recognition goes to Dr. Valenti and all of the members of our team who are working each and every day to prevent and treat HIV. We have been on the front lines of this epidemic from the very beginning. And that is where we will stay until a cure is found.
